5th Fondo Val d'Ombrone

Avio & I after the race
I have now been back in Tuscany for almost 3 weeks & have been training well having racked up close to 1300k's.Yesterday my friend Avio & I decided to take part in the 5th Fondo Val d'Ombrone in a little town called Roselle in the province of Grosseto (South West Tuscany). The course was run over 94km's with 1250m of vertical altitude gain.Needless to say I was a little tired coming into the event but having not raced for 4 years I wasn't expecting too much.As is normally the case in any race in Tuscany we started with a neutral run out of town then as soon as the flag dropped it wasn't long before we hit the first climb. There was a lot of jostling for position to be in front heading into the climb but I managed Ok. The rest of the race was pretty much a race of attrition & after a lot of climbing & descending I crossed the finish line in 2hrs 37mins,21st overall & 10th in the 33-41 age category.Avio managed 3rd in his 48-53 age group. All in all it was a pretty comeback for the both of us.
